Soweto Kota Festival Returns to Rockville for Ninth Year

The much-loved Soweto Kota Festival is set to return for its ninth edition, bringing together food lovers, music enthusiasts, entrepreneurs and families for a two-day celebration at the Elkah Cricket Oval in Rockville, Soweto, on September 5 and 6.

Hosted by SID Entertainment Pty Ltd, the festival has grown from a local food event into one of Soweto’s biggest community gatherings, attracting thousands of visitors each year while showcasing the township’s distinctive food culture and entrepreneurial spirit.

Although the festival continues to draw a predominantly young crowd, organisers say it remains a family-friendly event that welcomes people of all ages and backgrounds, with entertainment, food and activities designed to appeal to a broad audience.

“The Soweto Kota Festival is more than an event; it’s a celebration of heritage, community, and the entrepreneurial spirit of Soweto,” said founder Sidwell Tshingilane.

“As the festival enters its ninth year, we are excited to welcome media, partners, and fans back to experience what makes the event so special.”

At the heart of the festival is, of course, the kota. Around 40 vendors are expected to showcase their unique takes
