Orlando Pirates dominate the nominations while Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs also feature prominently ahead of the 27 July ceremony
The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has officially announced the nominees for the 2026 PSL Awards, setting the stage for South African football’s annual celebration of excellence.
The winners will be revealed at the prestigious awards ceremony on Monday, 27 July 2026, with the event set to be broadcast live on the SuperSport PSL Channel and SABC Sport.
Leading the race for the coveted PSL Footballer of the Season award are Orlando Pirates stars Oswin Appollis and Relebohile Mofokeng, alongside Mamelodi Sundowns midfield maestro Teboho Mokoena. The prestigious accolade is determined by the head coaches of the 16 Betway Premiership clubs, recognising the standout performer of the campaign.
Orlando Pirates’ influence is also evident in the Betway Premiership Players’ Player of the Season category, where Appollis and Mofokeng are joined by teammate Kamogelo Sebelebele. The award is voted for by fellow players across the league, making it one of the most respected honours on the PSL calendar.
The battle for Betway Premiership Coach of the Season features four coaches who enjoyed exceptional campaigns. Mamelodi Sundowns’ Miguel Cardoso has been shortlisted alongside Kaizer Chiefs co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef, while Orlando Pirates mentor Abdeslam Ouaddou completes the list of nominees.
The next generation of South African football talent is recognised in the Betway Premiership Young Player of the Season category. Orlando Pirates sensation Relebohile Mofokeng will compete against Isaac Cisse of Lamontville Golden Arrows and Seluleko Mahlambi of TS Galaxy after another impressive season from the trio.
In the Motsepe Foundation Championship Players’ Player of the Season category, Khethukuthula Ndlovu of Kruger United, Ronaldo van Neel of Hungry Lions and Cape Town City’s Emile Witbooi have all been rewarded for their outstanding performances throughout the campaign.
Fresh off their MTN8 triumph, Orlando Pirates dominate the MTN8 Last Man Standing category, with Oswin Appollis, Kamogelo Sebelebele and Tshepang Moremi making up an all-Pirates shortlist.
The Carling Knockout Player of the Tournament award will be contested by Marumo Gallants duo Washington Arubi and Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo, together with Orlando Pirates defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi.
Durban City’s impressive run in the Nedbank Cup has also earned widespread recognition. Goalkeeper Darren Keet, Siphamandla Ncanana and Brooklyn Poggenpoel have all been nominated for the Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament award following the club’s memorable cup campaign.
The Most Promising Player of the Tournament category highlights emerging talent, with Durban City’s Kyle Jurgens and Luphumlo Sifumba joined by TS Galaxy midfielder Seluleko Mahlambi.
Meanwhile, the future of South African football is showcased in the DStv Diski Challenge Player of the Season category, where Mamelodi Sundowns youngster Bennet Mokoena will challenge Orlando Pirates pair Lebo Mohlala and Mpho Padime for top honours.
With several of the country’s biggest clubs and brightest stars represented across the various categories, the 2026 PSL Awards promise to celebrate another memorable season of South African football when the winners are crowned later this month.
