My dear sisters, mothers, and daughters of Nigeria, residing in the beautiful nation of South Africa,
On this International Women’s Day, I extend my warmest and most profound greetings to each and every one of you.
Today, we celebrate you, your resilience, your strength, your beauty, and the indelible mark you are making on the world, far from the shores of home.
As you navigate life in our host nation, I want to acknowledge the unique position you hold. You are not just residents here, you are also ambassadors, representatives of our dear country, Nigeria. By your daily conduct, your respect for the South African laws, and your commitment to being good and productive Nigerians in South Africa, you are painting a powerful picture of what it means to be Nigerian.
Respecting this nation that provides you with a home, opportunities, and community is not just a duty, it is the highest form of gratitude. It is through this respect that we build bridges of understanding, unity, and shared progress between our beloved Nigeria and our gracious host, South Africa.
It is important that you always remember that your role extends far beyond your immediate community. Its most vital work happens within the four walls of your home. Never forget that the families you manage are the first foundational unit of any society. You are the primary architects of our collective future. The values you instill in your children today, the respect for others, the pride in your heritage, the discipline to do what is right, and the compassion to uplift those around you, are the very same values that will determine the success of our societies tomorrow.
The children we raise today will be the leaders, the innovators, and the peacemakers of the next generation. As you guide them, you are not just raising successful individuals, you are shaping the destiny of nations, both here in South Africa and back home in Nigeria. Your work is sacred, and its impact is eternal.
This year, the global theme for International Women’s Day ‘Give to Gain’ is a powerful principle that should guide our steps. In a world that often teaches us to hold tightly to what we have, this theme reminds us that true abundance comes from generosity. When we give our time to mentor a younger female, when we share our resources with a neighbor in need, or when we offer our knowledge to uplift our community, we do not lose, rather, we gain. We gain stronger bonds, a more supportive network, and a society where everyone rises together.
I encourage you to live this out in your daily lives. Give your children your undivided presence, not just your presents. Give your host community your best self, and watch how doors of opportunity will open for you. In giving, we gain purpose, connection, and the joy of building a better world for all.
To our men, you are not just partners, you are co-creators of this legacy. The success of our families, and by extension our communities, rests on the beautiful synergy of our partnership. Let us continue to support, honor, and uplift one another.
This brings me to my final and most important message to you today: Not only is the future indeed female, but the present already is too!
Do not wait for permission to lead. Do not wait for a ‘better time’ to shine. Your moment is now! In your businesses, in your careers, in your homes, and in your communities, your voice matters. Your ideas are critical. Your perspective is invaluable. You are already shaping the present with your grace, beauty, intelligence, and unwavering spirit.
So, on this International Women’s Day, stand tall! Embrace your dual role as a proud Nigerian and a responsible resident of South Africa. Nurture those young minds with love and wisdom. Walk boldly in your power, knowing that you are essential to the world of tomorrow, and absolutely vital to the world of today!
Happy International Women’s Day, my fellow ladies!
God bless you!
God bless the Nigerian diaspora in South Africa and beyond!
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria!
God bless our beautiful host nation – the Republic of South Africa!
