Joburg Open returns to Houghton Golf Club for a thrilling 2026 showdown

The prestigious Joburg Open makes a much-anticipated return to Houghton Golf Club from 05 to 08 March 2026, promising four days of world-class golf and electrifying competition.

Fans can expect a star-studded line-up as some of the biggest names on the DP World Tour and Sunshine Tour descend on Johannesburg.

Defending champion Calum Hill, who clinched the last edition in a nail-biting finale, will return to defend his crown against a formidable field, including previous Joburg Open winners, all vying for top honours on Sunday, 08 March.

Notable players include Dylan Naidoo who made history in 2025 when he became the first South African player of colour to win the coveted Investec South African Open Championship at Durban Country Club, Shaun Norris the 42-year-old narrowly missed out on victory in the 2025 edition of the Joburg Open, and George Coetzee just to name a few. In February 2014, Coetzee won his maiden European Tour title in his 107th start with a three-stroke victory at the Joburg Open.

Adding further prestige to the tournament, the Joburg Open forms part of The Open Qualifying Series, with the top three finishers earning coveted spots at The Open Championship at St Andrews. This pathway not only raises the stakes for competitors but also places Johannesburg firmly on the global golfing stage.

Addressing the importance of the City hosting global events, the Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg, Cllr Dada Morero, reiterated the City’s dedication to positioning Johannesburg as a leading destination for investment and tourism.

“The Joburg represents a vote of confidence in our city’s infrastructure, the talent and hospitality of our people, and our capacity to welcome the world. It also creates meaningful economic opportunities and reinforces Johannesburg’s standing as a globally competitive city of choice.”
