Joburg’s High Impact Service Delivery Programme rolls on

Under the guiding theme, “Re-imagining Joburg through the eyes of the residents,” the City of Johannesburg is continuing its High-Impact Service Delivery Programme (HISDP) to restore order, dignity and functionality to “our streets” from Monday 9 to 13 February 2026.

This week the multidisciplinary focus is on Wards: 45 Meadowlands Zone 10, 114 Zandspruit Ext 10, 58 Mayfair, 1/2/3/4/5 and 131 Orange Farm/Lenasia, 121 Ennerdale, 59/124 Noord/Jack Mincer Precinct/Marshalltown, 72 Glenhazel/Linksfield Orange Grove, 101 Boskruin, 94 Uranium/Granite Roads Fourways, 102 Ferndale/Randburg CBD, 69 Brixton and 81 Sandringham/Riverpark.
Led by Executive Mayor Cllr Dada Morero, this multidisciplinary initiative moves beyond “business as usual” to confront long-standing infrastructure backlogs and urban decay head-on.

The Mayor has mobilised a coordinated “blitz” approach across all seven regions, integrating the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department, City Power, Joburg Water, Pikitup, and the Johannesburg Roads Agency. Key focus areas include:
Infrastructure Rehabilitation: Rapid repairs of road surfaces, fixing of persistent potholes, and the clearance of blocked stormwater drains to improve urban resilience.
Energy and Water Security: Aggressive crackdowns on illegal utility connections and the systematic replacement of streetlights with solar-powered alternatives to combat vandalism.
Urban Revitalisation: Tackling “bad buildings” and recovering millions in revenue from non-compliant properties, while cleaning illegal dumping sites and beautifying public parks. Mayor Morero maintains that while the task is immense, the city is “reshaping the inner-city block by block and street by street”. This is more than a cleanup; it is a fundamental stabilisation to ensure it remains a world-class African city that works for all its residents”.
Safety and Bylaw Enforcement: Heightened police visibility to regulate informal trading, remove abandoned structures, and ensure public spaces remain safe for all residents.

The mayoral-led operations are designed to yield immediate, tangible benefits that enhance the quality of life for every Joburger. He acknowledges that the city continues to be “plagued by water problems but we are doing whatever needs to be done to fix this and ensure residents and businesses have a regular supply of water”
